Jason Taylor - Miami Dolphins

BIO:

Height:  6-6

Weight:  255

Position: Defensive End

College: University of Akron  Born:  Sept. 1, 1974

Jason, a third round pick (73rd overall) in the 1997 National Football League draft by the Miami Dolphins, has become one of the superstars of the league at his defensive end position.  In his ninth season in the NFL, Taylor has earned three Pro Bowl selections (2000, 2002, 2004) and continues to wreak havoc on opposing quarterbacks.  His 83.5 career sacks ranks fourth among active players, and No. 99's abilities will continue to be showcased on the field for the Dolphins as he is signed through the 2009 season.  Taylor was homeschooled throughout high school in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, but he got the chance to play varsity sports for Woodland Hills High School in Pittsburgh, where he quickly made a name for himself.  He earned All-Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic League honors by the Pittsburgh Press Gazette and Gateway Press his senior season as a tight end and free safety.

Jason was interviewed on ESPN's Outside The Lines show  on January 7, 2007 which covered The Tim Tebow Bill...

"I think some people look at (homeschooling) and just instantly say, "Well you're doing something different than what I'm doing, you're doing something that I don't necessarily agree with or don't know about and don't want to spend the time to learn about so automatically what you're doing is wrong. You're trying
to circumvent the system."

I think it's important to let the people that are holding the kids back know that there's a lot of kids with a lot of potential and that may be better than your valedictorian that you have in your high school. They just need a chance.

I think there's a problem when you have 16 states in our country that say it's okay to play and the other 34 that still have a problem with it. I think you got to
sit down, lay it all on the table and see what the advantages are for the kids and see what the disadvantages are.

Host asks, "The question of fraud is out there. Do you think it has any relation to homeschooling?"
Jason: "There's a certain element in our society that no matter what the system is or what thing you're involved with, they're going to circumvent the system
and take a back door. Look, there's people in the public school system and the private school system that are doing illegal or fraudulent things. I can't say in homeschooling they're not.. so, look, there are good, hardworking people, good kids with a lot of potential academically and athletically in the homeschool system. They just need a chance.

Give them a chance."
